ACL Fest takes over gorgeous Zilker Park in the heart of the city for two music-packed weekends in October. This is definitely one of the biggest Austin events. 450,000 people come to see more than 130 performers on seven stages.
South by Southwest has been going strong since 1987, drawing more than 421,000 people in 2017. For 10 days each March, professionals in the fields of music, film and technology travel to Austin from around the world to learn and grow. Takes place in venues all around downtown.
This free art and music festival takes place in May and September. Sixth Street, once called Pecan Street, shuts down for an entire weekend. Local musicians perform on three different stages. Plus, food and arts and crafts are can be purchased from local vendors.
The Trail of Lights turns Zilker Park into a Winter Wonderland each December. 400,000 Austinites visit Santa and tour light displays with over 2 million lights. Don’t miss a ride on the giant Ferris Wheel for a spectacular view of the city.
The Texas Book Festival takes place annually in October at the Texas State Capitol. It is has grown into one of the largest and most prestigious literary festivals in the country. This Austin event features over 250 nationally and critically recognized authors. There is also live music, local food trucks, and family activities.
