Over 130 performers on seven stages draw 450,000 people to Zilker Park for two weekends each October. ACL is one of the biggest Austin events and it all takes place in the heart of Austin!
South by Southwest has been going strong since 1987, drawing more than 421,000 people in 2017. For 10 days each March, music, film and technology professionals descend on Austin to share insights in their fields. Events take place in and around downtown. Locals can enjoy lots of free music, workshops and more!
This free art and music festival takes place in May and September. Sixth Street shuts down for an entire weekend and fills with fun! The festival gets its name from the fact that Sixth Street was once named Pecan Street. Attendees can enjoy local musicians performing on three different stages. In addition to music, local vendors sell food, art, and crafts.
The Trail of Lights turns Zilker Park into a Winter Wonderland each December. 400,000 Austinites visit Santa and tour light displays with over 2 million lights. Most noteworthy is the giant Ferris Wheel with a spectacular view of the city.
The Texas Book Festival takes place annually in October at the Texas State Capitol. It is has grown into one of the largest and most prestigious literary festivals in the country. This Austin event features over 250 nationally and critically recognized authors. Book lovers can also enjoy live music, local food trucks, and family activities.
